Bhutopurbo: A Chilling New Chapter in Bengali Horror Cinema

Date: June 13, 2025 • Location: Kolkata

Bengali cinema is about to welcome a spine-tingling experience with the upcoming horror anthology film, Bhutopurbo—a bold and atmospheric take on a genre still relatively rare in regional storytelling.

Directed by a team of fresh creative minds, Bhutopurbo stitches together several standalone ghost stories rooted in everyday Bengali life, but each laced with eerie twists and emotional depth. The newly released trailer has already turned heads, combining unsettling silence, whispered fears, and psychological suspense into a cinematic cocktail that haunts well beyond the screen.

The film stars a powerful ensemble: Sandipta Sen, Satyam Bhattacharya, Amrita Chattopadhyay, Saptarshi Maulik, and Suhotra Mukhopadhyay. Each of them leads a separate segment, taking the audience through emotional, eerie, and sometimes existential experiences.

What makes Bhutopurbo unique is its subtle, intelligent approach to horror. Instead of jump scares, it leans into the psychological—exploring grief, guilt, memory, and fear through characters that feel grounded and real. It’s horror with a human heart.

At the trailer event held in Kolkata, the cast shared their excitement about the script, their love for thrillers, and the creative challenge of making horror feel authentic and emotionally driven. The segments are reportedly connected not through plot, but through mood—each one exploring a different kind of internal fear.

Expected Release: Late June or early July 2025 in theatres and select digital platforms.
