Abhishek Banerjee in His First Bengali Film

National award-winning actor Abhishek Banerjee, known for his intense roles in Paatal Lok, Stree, and Mirzapur, is all set to make his much-awaited Bengali film debut—and it’s not your typical crossover.


Currently in pre-production, the film is a gritty slasher thriller, expected to be shot in and around Kolkata and South Bengal starting mid-July. While the title remains under wraps, sources confirm it’s an experimental project blending psychological tension with regional aesthetics.


Banerjee, who hails originally from Bengal, has long expressed his desire to work in his mother tongue. In a recent media interaction, he said, “It’s not just about returning to my roots—it’s about challenging myself with a new language, new rhythm, and a completely different emotional canvas.”

The film will reportedly explore themes of isolation, obsession, and distorted reality, with Banerjee playing a character battling both internal and external demons. According to insiders, the actor has already begun Bengali language coaching and is studying the tone and cadence of regional cinema.

The project is being led by a rising director from Bengal known for dark thrillers. The supporting cast includes a mix of Bengali OTT and theatre artists, aiming to create a fresh fusion of performance styles.
